Jennifer Mae Spooner

Is an English/Filipino Illustrator

based in Birmingham, UK

Jen uses her advantage of being a big kid to create fun, playful and positive illustrations. This shines through with her quirky characters and the tiny details that can be found hidden within  her work. She is usually inspired by people watching (to be honest, it's mostly dog watching), video games, fantasy books and by making a huge, playful mess in her studio (spare bedroom).

When she's not playing with her fluffy cloud of a dog, Goose, Jen is often reading books to her (non-fluffy) daughter, running her life drawing class every 2 weeks, going on walks, doing pilates, working on ceramic pieces, seeing her friends and drawing from life.

“You don’t stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing”- George Bernard Shaw

Jen came 2nd place in The MacMillan Prize for Illustration in 2022 before graduating from an MA in Children's Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art in 2023.

If you would like to discuss Children's Book opportunities, please contact Jen's agents, Gwen Beal of United Talent Agents (USA) and Enrichetta Frezzato of Curtis Brown (UK).
