Jennifer Mae Spooner

Is an English/Filipino Illustrator

based in Birmingham, UK

Play is a big part of Jen's creative practice, as well as her life! Her artwork is as playful as her personality and she hopes to capture her childlike wonder on paper. Her work usually involves quirky human and/or animal characters and she loves to tell multiple stories hidden in her illustrations.

When she's not snuggled up to her fluffy cloud of a dog, Goose, Jen is often being a human climbing frame to her (non-fluffy) daughter, running her life drawing class every 2 weeks, going on walks, doing pilates, teaching clay workshops, playing video games, doing 1000-piece puzzles and making a huge, playful mess in her studio (spare bedroom).

“You don’t stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing”- George Bernard Shaw

Jen came 2nd place in The MacMillan Prize for Illustration in 2022 before graduating from an MA in Children's Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art in 2023.

Her first illustrated picture book, The Bow Wow Ballet, will be published in Spring 2026 with Thames and Hudson, written by Gabby Dawnay.

If you would like to discuss Children's Book opportunities, please contact Jen's agents, Gwen Beal of United Talent Agents (USA) and Natalie Beckett of Curtis Brown (UK).
